On Friday, June 28th, Courtney, Alisha, Michelle, and I completed the MABR Amazing Places GeoTour. This was a great opportunity to take, Alisha, one of our new staff members on a tour of the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region. It was also great for me to see all 10 of the Amazing Places, as part of my job involves promoting the Amazing Places program, and I have only seen a few of the sites up till now.
This project was released near the end of 2018, and I was surprised at how many names were in the logbooks in each geocache! Some people had left “travel bugs” in some caches and others had left “trackables”, so we were able to use their codes and find out how far these little gadgets have travelled. I was saddened to learn they had made it further around the globe than I have, but also impressed at how far they have come.
While we were on the tour, we made sure that each of the geocaches were maintained so that people taking part in the Geotour could complete it without any problems. We also spent our time brainstorming ways we could improve the tour while we searched for each cache. The most challenging part of this trip was steering clear of any muggles (non geocachers), but we were stealthy enough that we didn’t give up the cache.
Although gloom and rain was in the forecast for our trip, the weather held out for us and we had a great day and stayed dry. I have not tried geocaching in my spare time before, and was quite amazed at how fun the hunt for caches actually is. These community nominated sites definitely deserve their “Amazing Places” title, and I will recommend visiting these places to all of my family and friends.
