A Salish Sea Adventure March 4, 2019 - 4:33pm

At 6 AM on Wednesday morning the MABRRI team (myself, Graham and Ryan) met at Schooner Cove marina for a boat tour of the Salish Sea. The main goal for the day was to collect data for the Salish Sea Marine Survival Project and to explore the many interesting islands and passages of the region. After launching the Silver Bullet and meeting up with Tom, Ryan’s dad, we took off for our first sampling site for the day located in the middle of the Salish Sea.

This workshop will examine and explore action research principles, methodologies and best practices.  Participatory Action Research, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (as action research), and Community Based Research will be explored.  Bring your current or future research interests and questions for some useful dialogue and feedback. This workshop will be useful for anyone interested in incorporating action research into course work, working with community groups and/ or applying for research funding (especially from the Vancouver Foundation).

Adventures to Amazing Places March 5, 2019 - 10:14am

On May 2, 2017, Ryan, Carson, Haley, Larissa, Lauren, Kidston and I adventured into the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region to check out some of the Amazing Places. Our first stop was at MacMillan Provincial Park (Cathedral Grove) where we wandered through the ancient grove of moss and lichen draped Douglas-fir, Western red-cedar, Western hemlock, and a variety of other species such as Yew, bigleaf maple, and Western flowering dogwood.

The BC Regional Innovation Chair for Aboriginal Early Childhood Development Community Advisory Committee has been in place since April, 2011. This committee provides guidance and acts as a resource to the Chair and is supported by the Vancouver Island University's Hwulmuxw Mustimuxw Siiem (First Nations Advisory Council).

The BC Regional Innovation Chair for AECD Community Advisory Committee has been in place since April, 2011. This committee provides guidance and acts as a resource to the Chair.

The AECD Advisory Committee was made up of early childhood leaders in the community. Since 2019, the latest Advisory Committee is working towards a membership of Elders to reinstate traditional ways of knowledge and connection to supporting children in their communities.
