Work Opportunities April 26, 2024 - 10:38am

MABRRI hires students to work on both new and ongoing research projects throughout the academic year and during the summer period. We offer both Work Opportunity (work-op) and Research Assistant (RA) positions.

Work-op positions are recommended for students that are new to MABRRI as they provide part-time work, ranging from 50-100 hours per semester, typically focusing on a specific project. They are a great way for us to get to know you and for you to get your foot in the door. Keep an eye out on this page for any work-op positions throughout the school year.

Leadership Circle April 25, 2024 - 4:08pm

Leadership is important because it inspires, motivates, and sets an example for people to accomplish positive changes in the world (Reference). In order to help expand our graduate students leadership skillset the Office of Graduate Studies is facilitating a number of intimate workshops with leaders from across the institution and our community on various topics chosen by the students. Bring on the positive change.

Join this celebration and showcase of scholarship, research, and creative activity at Vancouver Island University.

The day will begin with a panel presentation on transformative learning through research moderated by Dr. Nicole Vaugeois, Associate Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies. Throughout the day VIU employees will share the projects that they are pursuing in 15-minute presentations and poster presentations.

At this half-day event, VIU employees will share the projects they are pursuing in various formats of 15-minute presentations and posters. This is a great way to learn about the many and various projects underway and identify potential collaborators who share your interests. The event is designed to allow individuals to join sessions of interest.

Who can come?

The OGS Breakfast Club is open to all graduate students at VIU including those from other institutions that are doing their research on our campus with VIU faculty.

When is it? 

We get together most Friday mornings during the Fall and Spring semesters starting at 7:15am. We are looking at doing some over the summer as well. Stay tuned!

MABRRI's research and community engagement coordinators, project coordinators, VIU students, and faculty associates work with community partners to create and conduct research projects that advance our understanding of people and nature, and the interaction between these, within the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region and across Vancouver Island. Please be aware that due to faculty holidays, the REB is unable to accept new applications between May 27th and August 15th.

Resubmitted applications, amendments, and renewals will continue to be processed until July 5th. 

The REB Office will be closed from July 15th to August 15th.
