Environmental research and conservation are essential components of protecting and preserving Canada's unique landscape. Research must be centred on a holistic approach based on Indigenous and Western ways of knowing. Environmental research needs to be focused on building partnerships between Indigenous organizations and communities, universities, governments, businesses, and non-profit sectors, who are all committed to advancing inclusive and respectful knowledge.

Cowichan Curiosity & Creativity Photography Contest January 13, 2023 - 4:06pm

CREATE 2022 will have a dedicated student photography exhibit on April 7 at the Cowichan Campus that will encourage students to show off their curious and creative sides. In particular, we are looking for What does being a student at the Cowichan campus look like?

If you have a phone, you have a camera (most likely)!

First, fill out a CREATE registration form. There is a specific event labelled Cowichan Photography Contest.

Keep It Simple Science Challenge January 13, 2023 - 4:06pm

Knowledge Translation: (1) Activities that move research into the hands of people who can put it to practical use (Wikipedia). (2) Having fun and being creative helps (CREATE).

CREATE is challenging you to take your somewhat complicated materials and translate it for all! You can do this via a poster, presentation, or limerick. Oh yes. Limerick. The main point is to make it all fun and informative at the same time. 

Look Up Look Out Art Exhibit January 13, 2023 - 4:05pm

CREATE 2022 will have a dedicated student art exhibit from April 4-7 that will encourage our VIU community to extend their gaze up and out. Depending on the artists' availability, there will be a face-to-face showcase time when the artists will be at the exhibit and able to talk to others about their work.

In the fall of 2021, we had the opportunity to briefly introduce the diverse field of environmental psychology through a blog post (see here). The blog post illustrated the highlights of the ‘Sense of Place Study,’ which serves as one portion of a larger project titled The View from 2117: Human Actions, Consequences, and Perspectives on Mountain Regions, in collaboration with the MABRRI and the Canadian Mountain Network.
