VIU CARES is an online (via Zoom) symposium that will be held Thursday Feb. 18th (during winter study break) from 9am to 12pm, that will feature presentations about projects supported through VIU's Regional Initiatives Fund (RIF). The RIF is a partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the Real Estate Foundation of BC to enable communities of Vancouver Island to collaborate on community-based research projects with VIU Faculty and students. |

The Gallery’s latest exhibit, Puzzle: An Exhibition of Student Drawings, asks questions about who we are, how we got here and how we express ourselves. The exhibit focuses on routes ̶ how we get to our destination or travel through life; and roots ̶ where we come from and some of the social, cultural and political influences in our lives. Christine Battye, Assistant Curator for The View Gallery, says Puzzle is an opportunity to consider the diverse challenges people may face and one of the goals is to talk about diversity and create a dialogue that transcends the gallery walls. |

On Wednesday, February 12th, I joined Jessica Pyett and a handful of volunteers at Milner Gardens & Woodland to collect data for the Plant Phenology Research & Monitoring Project. The project is a collaboration between Milner Gardens, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD), and the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI). It aims to better understand how shifting climates may affect plant health, as well as evaluate the use of field cameras to capture data on plant phenology. |
