Forage Fish Sampling - Halloween Night November 12, 2019 - 3:11pm

One of the many reasons I wanted to become a Student Research Assistant for the Forage Fish Spawning Habitat Monitoring Project at MABRRI was to gain more experience and knowledge sampling on beaches for forage fish! So far, this position has done just that! On the night of Halloween, Chrissy, Olivia, and I set out to sample our core sites for the project. Olivia is joining us some of our sampling days as she is researching microplastic in sand lance habitats for her independent study. Once Olivia completed her sampling, she helped us collect data and sample!

Wetland Mapping - October 4th and 25th October 31, 2019 - 3:12pm

One of my favourite things about working at MABRRI is the opportunity to help with a variety of the different ongoing projects. On October 4th and 25th I joined Haley, Jess, and Alanna on trips to Gabriola Island for the Wetland Mapping project. The goal was to map some of the wetlands on the island to better understand where they are situated and how they are classified. Our first day of mapping was a very wet one, as we were greeted with heavy rain soon after we arrived at the site. Haley and Jess conquered one big wetland and Alanna and I another.
