Deadline for Entries to the SRCA Data-base is June 30th June 22, 2021 - 10:23am

All contributions received by June 30th will be compiled into an Annual Report published in the Fall online. Activities can include research initiatives, publications, presentations, conference presentations, awards, performances, exhibitions or shows, competitions, designs, community engagement, or service activities such as serving on committees, boards or editorial boards and more!  Link to the Scholarly Activity Database.

The following six short films illustrate various Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity projects undertaken by VIU students. The films were done by DIGI281 students as part of their Spring 2020 classwork. They did a beautiful job capturing their fellow students' work. Well done all!

Special Zoom Meeting RE: COVID19 Research Ideas April 6, 2020 - 1:34pm

All faculty with an interest in pursuing COVID19 research are invited to share their project ideas in hopes of identifying  synergies and collaborative opportunities.We will ask everyone to identify their proposed project ideas and in addition, we will answer questions about the special VIURAC COVID 19 Call for Proposals and share a list of other COVID research funding opportunities.

Vancouver Island University is extending a special call to faculty from all disciplines who are interested in undertaking research, scholarship and creative activity to better understand, learn from and inform the societal response to COVID 19 and potential future infectious disease outbreaks.

VIU Student Art Exhibition Explores Questions About Diversity and Common Experiences March 10, 2020 - 12:18pm

The Gallery’s latest exhibit, Puzzle: An Exhibition of Student Drawings, asks questions about who we are, how we got here and how we express ourselves. The exhibit focuses on routes  ̶  how we get to our destination or travel through life; and roots ̶ where we come from and some of the social, cultural and political influences in our lives. Christine Battye, Assistant Curator for The View Gallery, says Puzzle is an opportunity to consider the diverse challenges people may face and one of the goals is to talk about diversity and create a dialogue that transcends the gallery walls.

Data Collection at Milner Gardens & Woodland February 19, 2020 - 1:17pm

On Wednesday, February 12th, I joined Jessica Pyett and a handful of volunteers at Milner Gardens & Woodland to collect data for the Plant Phenology Research & Monitoring Project. The project is a collaboration between Milner Gardens, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD), and the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI). It aims to better understand how shifting climates may affect plant health, as well as evaluate the use of field cameras to capture data on plant phenology.
